The red power algae

Dunaliella salina

The unicellular microalga Dunaliella Salina is a miracle of nature. It survives even in the saltiest lakes on earth (such as the Dead Sea) and under the most extreme temperature and light conditions. To protect itself from these stress factors, it produces up to 15% carotenoids, especially beta-carotene, known as provitamin A.

We cultivate the microalgae in large, open ponds. The hypersaline water we need for this is obtained naturally from evaporation of seawater by nothing more than solar radiation. It doesn’t get any more responsible for nature than this!

After several weeks of exponential growth, we harvest the algae using patented technology. They are then gently concentrated and dried, resulting in pure orange-red algae powder.

Depending on your wishes as a customer, the powder is now packed and shipped as a whole or the carotenoids are extracted with natural vegetable oils.

Depending on your wishes as a customer, the powder is now packed and shipped as a whole or the carotenoids are extracted with natural vegetable oils.

The resulting algae powder contains 2% to 10% carotene, the oil 5% to 25%. In addition to beta-carotene (including the extremely valuable 9-cis variant), these are mainly alpha-carotene and xantophylls such as zeaxanthin and lutein. In addition to these pigments, the powder contains valuable proteins (18 amino acids), unsaturated fatty acids, polysaccharides, vitamins B, C and E, as well as zinc, selenium, calcium and iron.
